PREP

When the boys move into Years 3 and 4 they are taught in their classrooms for most of their lessons but have specialist teaching for Sport, Drama, Art, Music, Drama, PE and Games, Computing and Digital Learning, Design Technology, French, and Lab Science.   Boys in both year groups are placed in ability sets for Maths.

“In a science investigation, Year 3 pupils instinctively predicted whether materials were magnetic or non-magnetic.” – ISI Inspection Report

As the boys enter Year 5, Lochinver House operates like a senior school.  Form Tutors are introduced and boys are taught entirely by our team of subject specialist teachers.  The boys visit their form rooms for registration and PSHEE, Citizenship and Careers and move to subject-specific classrooms for lessons. Our curriculum is designed specifically to suit boys, to extend and enrich learning at all levels, and to prepare them for 11+ and 13+ entry to senior schools.

Independent learning, self-discipline and taking responsibility are key, as is keeping a sense of fun, exploration, and discovery.  Creativity is encouraged in the delivery of lessons and staff make full use of the latest technology to complement and enhance the boys’ learning.

Teaching excellence in all lessons continues to ensure that pupils are continually stretched to achieve more than they thought possible. Our teachers adapt their teaching to each individual’s needs and abilities; ensuring that the most able are continually stretched and those who need additional support are given every opportunity to grow.

Opportunities to learn, explore, create and think in every lesson from Classical Civilisation to Computing and Digital Learning and from English to Science abound.
