Applying For a Place
This website gives only an indication of what Lochinver House can offer your son and there are many questions that can only be answered by a visit to the School.
We welcome pupils at Lochinver House from all social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds who will benefit from the fantastic education we offer and contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
When pupils join us, we work hard to ensure that they integrate quickly both socially and academically.
Each year Lochinver House admits 40 boys into the Reception year (aged 4+), following a careful selection process. Once registered, your son will be invited to an assessment in the early part of the autumn term, almost a year before he is due to commence his Reception year. Registration is advisable by the end of the summer term of that year.
There is no other major intake into any year group after Reception until 11+ entry to Year 7. However, occasional places may arise in Years 1 to 6, so if you are interested in a place for your son in those year groups, please contact the Registrar to arrange a visit to the School or to complete a registration.
It is widely recognised that 11 is not the optimum age of transfer for boys to move on to secondary education; developmentally, boys are better suited to moving to senior school at age 13. Lochinver has experience of helping boys who join us at 11 to gain entry to their chosen school at age 13. In recent years, boys who joined Lochinver at age 11 have gained places at Haberdashers’ Aske’s, St. Albans, City of London School, Mill Hill, Haileybury and St Columba's College.
The extra two years in a top class Preparatory School really can make a difference. We are firmly committed to enabling boys to achieve their full potential at this crucial stage in their lives.
To arrange a visit and find out what makes Lochinver House special and unique, please contact Anne Meir, Registrar
We very much look forward to meeting you and your son.
