    Football Tour October 2016

During half term, 54 boys from Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 took part in a truly memorable football tour in the City of Lisbon, Portugal.  The tour was hugely successful both on and off the pitch.

On arrival, the boys enjoyed some top class training from the Benifca youth coaches. Receiving advice and guidance from the very coaches involved in the development of players at a club with such pedigree and history in both domestic and European competitions was very special.   These sessions will live long in the memory.

The training seemed to have the desired impact as the boys clearly enjoyed their European debuts; they played well, worked hard for each other and got some great results.  Playing evening games, under floodlights, was a fantastic experience.  This was enhanced enormously by the big crowds that came to see the boys play.  It is fair to say that the boys really stepped up to the challenge and made the most of the opportunity.

Whilst the training and match schedules were intense, the boys did have time to enjoy a variety of other experiences. Highlights included: having an entire bowling alley to ourselves, having lunch in the hospitality section of Estádio da Luz (Benfica’s stadium), touring the stadium itself, having a walking tour of Lisbon and having a day on the beach in October!

There is no doubt that the boys and staff left Lisbon with huge satisfaction at such good performances and memories that will last forever.

  • Burgundy

    Year 8 French Trip

Year 8 spend a fantastic, fun-filled week in the heart of the Burgundian countryside. The boys take part in many activities including lessons, archery, circus skills, mosaic making, hiking and cooking, all in French of course! We also visit Vézelay, a historic town, and Château de Bussy Rabutin, the home of a disgraced courtier of Louis XIV.  The week ends with a trip to a local market on the Friday morning, where the boys buy food for their lunch which they then carefully prepare and present to the group. Some impressive plays, written by the boys, top off a very rewarding and enjoyable week.

  • Ardeche

    Year 8 Outdoor Pursuits France

Despite an arduous trip down to the south of France each summer, Year 8 boys are treated to a fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable time on a 10 day outdoor pursuits trip.  They have 3 days canoeing on the fast flowing Ardeche and most boys manage to complete the 36 km descent without any problems, whilst others have their moments of panic!  That said, everyone reaches the end safely!

Activities on the river include rock jumping, boat wrestling, wombling and boat bouncing. After visiting Aqualand, the boys spend 3 days on the Med completing activities such as snorkelling, windsurfing, sailing, banana boating and kayaking.

A comprehensive programme of evening activities is arranged, some more serious than others - dancing the night away at the disco springs to mind!

The boys have the opportunity to socialise with other schools and most agree it is a very special  way to end their time at Lochinver House!

  • Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire

    Year 7 Bushcraft

Every summer, Year 7 has a fantastic woodland adventure, deep in the forest.  The boys leave the world of home and school behind them to experience the challenge of living in the wild, sleeping under canvas and cooking over open fires.

It is an exceptional week, full of self-discovery; from shelter-building and wilderness cookery, to archery, swimming and essential bushcraft skills needed to survive in the wilderness.

The boys are outstanding in their willingness to embrace the challenges they face and hopefully they all return home with some very special memories!
