There is an exciting and challenging drama course at Lochinver House School. The opportunities are there for every pupil to be given a solid grounding in the areas of acting, voice, improvisation, role play and script reading and many more imaginative and confidence building skills.
The boys are treated to workshops throughout the year to include stage fighting and circus skills in the senior school and puppetry and superheroes in the junior school. Perform Drama also come in to work with the Pre Prep, to build on the work that we do engaging the boys with creativity.
Drama is taught throughout the school and every boy has a timetabled lesson. Lessons take place in the large and spacious theatre that is equipped with staging, and a sophisticated sound and lighting system.
There are many forms of dramatic performance at Lochinver, with opportunities for every boy to perform each year in the drama department. The annual performances staged include; Year 3 and 4 Harvest Festival, Year 7 Remembrance Day Performance, Pre-Prep Nativity, Year 3 Musical and the Senior end of year play or Musical.
A range of extra-curricular activities complement the department, those currently running are Drama club, Street Dance and lessons in the Lamda qualification. The specialist staff teach the ‘Group Devised Acting Course’ from Years 4 – 8 and sit the exam from Entry Grade to Grade 5. The department takes the boys to the theatre 3 times a year to see West End Musicals and theatre productions which have included, Wicked, The Lion King, 39 Steps, Mouse Trap, and the Importance of Being Earnest. We have very strong relationships with the many senior schools and are regularly invited to attend their productions.
It is certainly a vibrant and creative department which the boys all fully engage in.
