Lochinver's Year 7 Team who acheived 3rd place at the Salters' Festival of Chemistry
The Salters' Festivals of Chemistry are an initiative of the Salters' Institute. Their objective is to help promote the appreciation of chemistry and related sciences among the young. Salters' Festivals provide the opportunity for enthusiastic young students to spend a day in a university department and to take part in practical chemistry activities which are fun!
This year 12 schools participated; mostly all were Year 8 pupils. The Salters’ Challenge is a two hour session in the chemistry laboratory at The University of Bedfordshire where the pupils work as a team to solve a problem by chemical analysis. They then competed in the University Challenge, an hour and a half of chemical challenges set by the Chemistry Dept. Our Year 7 team of Alex Vickers, Alex Clifton, Joe Phantis and Christopher Zapties did exceptionally well; against strong opposition they were highly commended in the The Salters’ Challenge and won third prize in the University Challenge! The team won some nice chemistry sets for LHS. We had such an exciting day!
A highlight of the school year has to be Grandparents' Afternoon - thank you to all our visitors and to our amazing Year 5 boys for being such good entertainers and tour guides! https://t.co/XtMb8lOXxn
