'All I want to do, ever, is play chess.' - Bobby Fischer
We have been following the progress of our U9 Chess Team with much excitement and were thrilled when they qualified for the EPSCA National School Chess semi-finals earlier this year.
The boys set off for the semis last weekend which were played at Pontins, Cambersands. Altogether, 36 English school teams competed in the Under 9 category and the boys faced some very stiff opposition, including some young players who represent England.
Team Lochinver fought very hard, remained focused throughout the entire weekend and performed fantastically well, finishing in 11th place with a score of 17 out of 30 board wins. For this, they were awarded a Gold place trophy, a hugely impressive outcome when you consider that the team is represented by boys in Years 1 to 4!
Everything was to play for in the final round but sadly the boys just missed out on a place in the finals. That said, the boys had a wonderful experience and their achievement deserves our huge congratulations!
Our heartfelt thanks go to Kalum, Misha, Mihir, Sebastian, Joshua and Sahil (and their parents!) for giving up their time to represent Lochinver House so beautifully and we commend you on the amazing team spirit you display at all times!
Yesterday's first ever Pre Prep Lego Club was a massive hit! The boys listened to 'Whatever next' by Jill Murphy and then designed rockets for Baby Bear to fly to the moon, complete with a seat for his companion, Owl. Next week the boys will design and construct landmarks. https://t.co/ENQ9gpqQHz
