Tuesday, 16th January got off to a bit of a tense start for our U13 Football Team as they prepared to meet Bolton School in the Semi-Final of the Investec ISFA Cup, and what a thrilling affair it was and a privilege to watch!
Lochinver started the game brightly, scoring two early goals through Elian and Ted. Bolton came into the game well and looked good in possession of the ball. Two well taken goals made the score 2-2, which on the balance of play was a deserved share of the game. Matty then slotted the ball in the corner after a scramble in the box to make the score 3-2 to Lochinver at half-time.
Having defended very well in the early stages of the second half, Lochinver's defence was broken again and after stealing the ball in midfield, Bolton countered quickly to level the game. A moment of magic came with around 8 minutes to go, as Elian bent a free kick into the top corner to give the hosts the lead again. Bolton continued to look dangerous but Lochinver battled hard to protect their lead. Elian completed his hat trick late on to seal the win.
The game was a fantastic advert for ISFA Football, played in the right way throughout. Commiserations to Bolton who played very well but huge congratulations to Lochinver who now progress to their first final, having lost out in the semis three years ago.
The boys travel to Championship side, Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium in March where they will meet either Whitgift or Royal Russell in the Final.
Good luck Lochinver!
